Highlights:

  • Public hearings organized across the state where children spoke of issues they face like child labour, lack of anganwadis, closure of schools, collection of fees by government schools and many more
  • Cadres and adolescents recruited to be strengthen the movement
  • State level workshop organized to further examine the situation and plan the way forward
  • Media effectively used to highlight the situation
  • Support extended to NAFRE , the national alliance that also advocates access to quality education for all children
  • ON Jan 26th Press meet across 8 districts organized on that had children voice the challenges they face. This led to a concerted effort across the state to highlight the issue
  • Issues brought to the notice of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC)

 

IMPACT:

With various activities being organized simultaneously across the region, the seriousness of the issue got highlighted and various governing bodies and official bearers began taking notice of the situation.

  • The public hearings were organized across 14 districts where 139 child right violations were attended to. IT was attended by key duty bearers like the district judge, Child Welfare Committee Chairperson, Juvenile Justice Board State Coordinator, ICDS CDPO, District Sub-Judge, District Education Officer, Child Welfare Committee member, the Juvenile Justice Board district member, Legal Counsellor – District Domestic Violence Cell who gave recommendations to improve the situation.
  • Cadre building programs saw 127 youngsters participate across the 3 sub regions of AP
  • The state level workshop critically analysed the Education policies of the Government; the education budget and the model rules of the Right To education Act.
  • The petition to State Human Rights Commission about the status of education in Andhra Pradesh resulted in SHRC taking cognizance of the matter and directing the state government to look into the issues.  This also helped in speeding up the clearance for the sanction of Rs. 250 crores for the construction of toilets throughout the state. 86 schools were prevented from closure, 130 teachers were appointed in different schools, infrastructure at 379 schools were improved and 212 new Anganwadi centres sanctioned
